OWPD Arrests Suspect in a Stolen Car

Flock Hotlist Tool

The Old Westbury Police Department was alerted to a reported stolen vehicle operating within the village at 7:45 am on Thursday, February 1.   Consistent with our standard practice, all available police personnel immediately began looking for this vehicle, including our detectives.  One of the department’s detectives located the vehicle, confirmed that it was stolen and arrested the operator.  The vehicle had been stolen several days earlier in Suffolk County and it had clearly been, at the very least, driven here to Old Westbury.  The individual who was arrested had numerous criminal arrest priors, including prior arrests for burglary. Our department is constantly striving to enhance our advanced license plate reader network with the goal of leveraging technology to keep our residents safe.

We received a second alert on the same vehicle as it passed by another license plate reader on the back of the tow truck headed to impound.
